  • Concierge medicine is a relationship between a patient and a primary care physician where the patient pays an annual service fee or retainer. In exchange for the retainer, doctors provide routine exams detached from medical necessity on an ongoing basis, coupled with communication services—these services are not what insurance covers, they exceed coverage and focus instead on your health rather than insurance treatment limits and conditions. It is also known as boutique medicine, executive health, retainer-based medicine, direct care, and innovative medical practice design. Our concierge-styled subscription practice offers personalized, comprehensive, and evidence-based practice of pediatric medicine for infants, children, and adolescents.

  • It is wonderful that your child is healthy. Dr. Wu focuses on preventive care and partners with families to keep it that way. Our unhurried and extended appointments allow for in-depth discussions on topics such as sleep, nutrition, and development. And, by constantly exhibiting vigilance with health conditions, it is possible to avoid problems before they take root.

  • Yes, we currently have openings in our practice depending on your child’s age. We keep our practice small and personable so that we have the time to get to know each and every family and be readily available. Unlike the traditional practice where each pediatrician has a panel of around 2,000 patients, we limit our panel size to 150 patients. If you are interested in our services, please submit our membership interest form as soon as possible before our enrollment for new members closes.

  • Yes, we provide house calls or home visits if your primary residence and/or location requested is within our service area (typically within a 30 minute drive from our corporate headquarters) and is per physician discretion.

  • Yes, we think it is important for our patients to have access to their doctor. Whether you are at home or on vacation, we can evaluate your child straight from your computer or mobile device. Please note there are some limitations to the examination with telemedicine evaluations and an in-person visit may be recommended after your telemedicine appointment to further assess your child. Medication prescriptions are at the full discretion of the physician based on your child’s symptoms and exam and the laws of the state that you are traveling in.

  • Our subscription routine exam service model is designed to be entirely outside any plan coverage and to deliver a version of care that plans do not provide or cover. Our fees may not be submitted to plans for reimbursement, but, if we are in-network and if we think a plan-covered service is warranted, we can provide that care and then bill the appropriate plan.

We require maintaining insurance coverage for additional care needs beyond what we can directly provide through our practice. This may include medically necessary imaging, external laboratory testing, subspecialist referrals, emergency department visits, inpatient hospitalization, surgery, outpatient therapy, specialized mental health care, prescription medication coverage, etc.

When it comes to maintaining health insurance, Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) insurance plans work well with our care delivery model, as they allow us, as an out-of-network provider, to order necessary testing, prescribe treatment, and make subspecialist referrals without the requirements or restrictions of being in-network. For this reason, most Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans are not compatible with our concierge-style subscription practice, as they typically require an in-network physician to facilitate and provide care to avoid high out-of-pocket costs. Therefore, we do not recommend this type of insurance plan if you are looking to utilize our services.

While we know not everyone wants to invest in their child’s health this type of model, we also know that the families who do make this investment are making a rational decision—getting well-informed and high-connection pediatric health support could make the difference between a lifetime of health condition stress and costs, or the possibility of enhancing health support in a way that avoids the avoidable conditions. While we certainly cannot promise every child will be healthy, we do promise to quickly assess health and rapidly answer questions to provide your child the best possible chance of good health.

  • Our program is designed to be eligible for HSA (and FSA/HRA/MSA) pre-tax dollar or employer funding. Patient must confirm HSA eligibility with Patient’s tax expert, or FSA/HRA/MSA eligibility with a plan coordinator, or employer funding with that employer’s labor/ERISA/tax legal counsel, as Practice cannot guarantee medical expense eligibility due to variable factors applicable to each Patient. But our model tracks the requirements for such funding.

  • You will still have access to Dr. Wu via robust electronic communication services. Dr. Wu will do everything medically appropriate and safe to help you manage and navigate your child’s illness remotely. Please note there are some limitations to the examination with telemedicine evaluations and an in-person visit may be recommended after your telemedicine appointment to further assess your child. If it is not possible to ensure safety from a distance, Dr. Wu will assist you in seeking appropriate local care if a more extensive evaluation or treatment is needed. Travel kits and immunizations may also be provided to you in advance per physician discretion. Dr. Wu is licensed in multiple states and has relationships with experts and physicians across state lines and in several parts of the world for improved access and guidance. Medication prescriptions are at the full discretion of the physician based on your child’s symptoms and exam and the laws of the state that you are traveling in.

  • We strive to minimize any disruptions to your child’s care and to keep access to your pediatrician as consistent as possible. We will always notify you of any planned absences well in advance and coordinate any necessary non-urgent care beforehand. During these absences, your pediatrician may still be available via electronic communications to help maintain continuity of care. In the event of unexpected situations, such as a serious illness, we will make every effort to arrange alternative pediatric care with Dr. Wu’s vetted and trusted pediatric colleagues until services can resume.

  • We are a primary care practice for pediatric medicine only at this time and serve newborns, including infants born premature, until 18 years of age with the exception of a late adolescent with complex health needs transitioning to adult care. There may be conditions or situations that are better served by a pediatric specialist. We will work hard to facilitate that connection for you whether or not it is locally or elsewhere, as we aim to provide the best expert care for your child.

  • We follow the recommendations provided by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). We believe in the importance of childhood vaccinations and consider routine immunization to be one of the most impactful interventions we can provide to support your child’s health and well-being.

While we do not routinely recommend alternative vaccination schedules, we are happy to discuss options, provide information and guidance to help families make informed decisions and jointly establish a personalized vaccination plan.

Currently, members have the option of receiving in-home vaccination, but can also choose to go through local pharmacies, a traditional clinical practice, or the local public health department.

  • We are unable to provide medical exemptions in California for vaccines unless applicable criteria from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) are met.
